Professional Activities
Ann Madden Rice is the
associate director and chief operating
officer of University of Iowa Hospitals
and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, a role
she has held since February 1, 2003. She
is responsible for directing daily
hospital and clinic operations. Rice
previously served as the hospitals and
clinics' chief financial officer, having
been appointed to that position in 1999.
She subsequently served as interim
director and chief executive officer
from December 2001 to August 2002.
As a certified public accountant, Rice
previously led the financial management
team at Mary Greeley Medical Center in
Ames and Central Vermont Medical Center.
She is a Fellow in the Healthcare
Financial Management Association, a
member of the Iowa Society of Certified
Public Accountants, and a diplomat of
the American College of Healthcare
Executives. She is also a member of the
Council of Member Services for the Iowa
Hospital Association and a Deputy
Committee member of the Iowa Business
Council. She was named the Modern Health
Care Up & Comer in 1994.
