Internship/Co-op Program Overview
Internship/Co-op Program Overview

Today, more than ever before, companies and organizations are seeking college graduates who have had career-related experience while going to school. The College of Business is helping students gain this valuable experience through the Internship/Co-op Program.

Internships:

  • Part-time or full-time

  • Generally lasts for 1 semester or summer, or longer

  • Paid or non-paid

  • Credit or non-credit

Co-ops:

  • Always full-time

  • May occur on an alternating basis (work, school, work, etc.)

  • Always paid

  • Usually not done for credit

  • Out of school for either fall or spring

Student Benefits:

  • Always full-time

  • Gain specific job skills and work experience

  • Apply academic knowledge in practical work situations

  • Pretest your career choice and discover what entry-level positions are available

  • Establish a network of professional contacts in your field

  • May lead to a permanent professional position following graduation

  • Earn money, plus a higher starting salary may be negotiated when accepting a permanent professional position

  • Learn valuable job search skills such as resume writing and interviewing

  • Develop self-confidence, time management, and communication skills

Program Requirements:

To qualify for participation in the Internship/Co-op Program, you must

  • Be a full-time matriculated ISU student in the College of Business

  • Have chosen a major. Business students must be in the College of Business professional program. (Pre-Business students will be considered on a case-by-case basis)
