Professional Activities
David Ecklund is a Vice President in the Client Services Division of Caterpillar Logistics Services, Inc.  Since joining Caterpillar in 1973 he has served in a number of product development, remanufacturing, marketing, and distribution functions supporting Caterpillar's engine and construction machinery businesses with experience in the U.S. and overseas. 

His experience includes the start-up of two new businesses:  Caterpillar Remanufactured Products and Caterpillar Logistics Services where he led the development of the company's business in Europe from 1990 - 1999.  Over the period, Dave's efforts shaped an organization of 15 nationalities competent in Pan European logistics and created a business representing 21 clients, 14 facilities (over 4 million square feet) located in eight countries, and over 50 percent of the company's annual revenue.

Iowa State University
Ecklund currently serves on the Iowa State University College of Business Dean's Advisory Council and has been instrumental in the development and promotion of the College's annual Voorhees Conference on supply chain management.

Awards
He is the recipient of La Medaille d'Honneur from the Department of Moselle in France for Caterpillar Logistics Services contribution to the development and promotion of business in the region and the Bell Tower of Fame Award from Greene County, Iowa for professional accomplishments with international significance.  Ecklund is also a recipient of The Citation of Achievement award from Iowa State University which was established in 1985 to honor distinguished alumni who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in life beyond the campus.

Caterpillar is the world's leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines as well as being a technology leader.  Their products and components, manufactured in 50 U.S. facilities and in 65 other locations around the globe, are utilized by Caterpillar customers on every continent and in virtually every country building the world's infrastructure.  2003 sales and revenues were $22.76 billion. Annually sales to customers outside the United States typically represent 50% or more of the company's business maintaining Caterpillar's position as a global supplier and leading U. S. exporter.

Dave will provide an overview of Caterpillar's heritage, how their organization is structured, and discusses the company's supply chain strategy including the role of Six Sigma, the supply chain's contribution to shareholder value, and a look to the future.
