DEAN

Births: Lori Wirth, secretary in the Dean's Office, delivered twin boys on March 20, 2005. Cody and Cole weighed in 3+ lbs each and 15" long.

Sympathy: Deepest sympathy to Jeffrey Kaufmann on the death of his father Harold from Robbinsdale, MN.

In Memory: Max Wortman, Distinguished Professor of Management passed away March 25, 2005. Memorial services are scheduled for Sunday, April 17, 1:30 p.m., Collegiate Presbyterian Church, 159 N. Sheldon Ave, Ames. Memorial contributions may be made to the Max S. Wortman Professorship, c/o Iowa State University Foundation, 2505 Elwood Drive, Ames, IA, 50010-8644.

Help us Ensure Accurate Statistics
As the school year draws to a close and your students are being offered internships and full-time jobs, please remind them to report their job offers to Business Career Services. Students can report job offers by going online to the Business Career Services web site at www.bus.iastate.edu/careers or stopping by our office on the first floor of the Gerdin Business Building.

Give input on the Career Fairs
Faculty and Staff volunteers are being sought in the College of Business to evaluate the fall and spring career fairs. We will meet as a group in the early summer to discuss possible changes to the Career Fairs. An employer will help to facilitate the discussion. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Kathy Wieland at wielandk@iastate.edu.

Business Career Services Annual Report
The 2003-2004 Business Career Services Annual Report will be published by mid-April. Each member of the college will receive a printed copy.

 

FINANCE

Mark Power, professor of finance and Principal Financial Group Faculty Fellow in Finance, and his wife Deb have volunteered to serve as Co-Commissioners of Golf for the National Invitational Special Olympics Golf Tournament, to be held in Ames, Iowa on September 16-19, 2005 and for the National Summer Olympics that will be held in Ames, Iowa in July, 2006.

PRODUCTION OPERATION MANAGEMENT
Frank Montabon, assistant professor of production operation management, gave a speech to the Ames Morning Rotary on March 23 about "Green Manufacturing."

SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTERS

Jon Ryan, state director of the Iowa SBDC, had a conference proceeding titled “Working with Distressed Companies” accepted for the 2005 Texas State SBDC Conference, to be presented on May 16, 2005 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Jon Ryan, state director of the Iowa SBDC, visited with all of Iowa’s federal legislators at their Washington, DC offices on March 1 and 2 about the SBDC program’s funding needs and its economic impact on Iowa.

Lars Peterson, associate state director of the Iowa SBDC, participated in the Iowa Rural Development Council Steering Committee meeting in Des Moines on March 8.

Jon Ryan, state director of the Iowa SBDC, gave the keynote address on “Entrepreneurism” at the Wayne County Development Corporation’s Annual Banquet in Promise City, Iowa on March 8th.

Jon Ryan, state director of the Iowa SBDC, gave an on-air interview about the SBDC program to Sue Daniels and Jerry Reno of WHO Radio on March 24th.

Jon Ryan, state director of the Iowa SBDC, presented the capstone program on “Strategic Planning to the DeWitt Chamber of Commerce Leadership School in DeWitt, Iowa on March 29th.

Jon Ryan, state director of the Iowa SBDC, made a presentation to IDED’s Small Business Advisory Council and participated in their planning retreat in Des Moines, Iowa on March 31.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

Ann Coppernoll Farni, Director, Stephanie Eberhart, Academic Advisor, and Ben Chamberlain, Academic Advisor, will present “Training and Retaining Today’s New Advisor for Tomorrow’s World” at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Region 6 Conference held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on April 21, 2005.

Ben Chamberlain, Academic Advisor, will present “Supporting LGBT Students for Tomorrow’s World” at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Region 6 Conference held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on April 22, 2005.

Ben Chamberlain, Academic Advisor, will present “New Advisor Transitions” at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) National Conference held in Las Vegas, October 5-8, 2005
