event will take place on
Thursday, July 14, 2005 from
3:00 to 7:00 p.m. This casting
call is for members of the Iowa
State community only -
students, alums, and
faculty/staff. Non-Iowa Staters
can attend the open casting call
on Saturday, July 16 at 9 a.m.
at Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines.

show up and meet with the

Career Coordinators Attend Conferences Melissa Sly, career coordinator, attended Career Leader-College Training in Chicago, IL on June 28-30, 2005. “Career Leader-College” is an assessment tool used to help Business majors choose a major within the business disciplines based upon their interests, values and perceived abilities. Kevin J. Hardy, experiential learning coordinator, will attend the NACE Management Leadership Institute on July 10-15, 2005 in Cincinnati, Oh.

GRADUATE PROGRAMS Mark Peterson, director of graduate career services, was an invited panelist for a presentation titled “Enhancing Employer Relations” at the MBA Career Services Council (MBACSC) annual conference in Philadelphia, PA June 13-16, 2005. Peterson’s co-panelists were Kevin Baltz - University of Chicago GSB, John Hamilton – Owen School of Business at Vanderbilt University, and Tracy Handler – Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College (CUNY). Mark Peterson, director of graduate career services, has been named to the planning committee for the 2005 International Career Professionals Conference to be held in Orlando, FL in November. This annual conference is sponsored by MBACSC, and will be held in tandem with the 11th annual Global MBA/Masters Employment Conference. The planning committee consists of MBA Career Services Directors from Iowa State University, Cornell University, George Washington University, and University at Buffalo (SUNY). Iowa State has sent foreign-national MBA and MS students to the Global Employment Conference for the past 7 years. Mark Peterson, director of graduate career services, represented the Iowa State MBA program as Past President at the summer meeting of the Southwest MBA Alliance (SWMBA) in June. SWMBA is a consortium consisting predominantly of Big-12 MBA career services offices. The group is planning an MBA Virtual Career Fair to be held this fall, as well as an MBA alumni networking event in Kansas City, MO. Also being explored is a joint employment recruiting event with the SEC-MBA consortium.

(PFG) in Des Moines, IA.

project will also enable Mr. Tandradinata to enhance skills
and expertise that he uses in

and MIS 431X (Contemporary
Language Software Development
in VB.NET) at Iowa State
University. He
will have the
opportunity to work and learn
from Principal's RIS
(retirement and Investment
Service) Business Unit in the
PC App Development from May 23
until Aug 12.

Yoshida (Tsukuba), and Ashley
Bush (Florida State). Hitachi,
Fujitsu, Toshiba, and IBM will
assign internal liaisons for
facilitating access to their
outsourcing partners.

COB MEDIA HITS Ned Skinner, 1974, Industrial Administration/Accounting, purchased US Coffee, a distributor of coffee and other beverages to offices, hotels, restaurants, and coffee shops throughout central Iowa. Mark Sullivan, 1975, Industrial Administration, joined RSM McGladrey as the executive compensation consulting practice leader in its Minneapolis office. Michael Fischer, 1979, Industrial Administration, is president of North America Formica Corporation. Michael Schulte, 1979, Industrial Administration, has been promoted to vice president for private banking with Wells Fargo Bank in Pasadena, CA.
SPRING 2005 Tom (1999, TransLog) and Teresa Wacha was interviewed for Visions magazine on what drew them to stay in Iowa after graduating from Iowa State University. Visions magazine interviewed Angela Mathews Moore (1998, Marketing) on how she came back to Iowa after being employed out of state for five years. An article on "Grow Your Small Market Farm" business network, sponsored in part by ISU's Iowa Small Business Development Center (SBDC) was published in Visions magazine. The network recently sponsored a business-planning program designed for farm businesses interested in raising specialty livestock, poultry, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and prairie and native grass seed.

JUNE 4, 2005 In an article entitled "CAFTA Foes' Short-Sightedness Hurts US.", Lincoln Star Journal quoted a study completed by Dermot Hayes, pioneer chair of agribusiness and professor of finance, that estimated that CAFTA would lift hog prices by 36 cents a head.
