Career Services
Career Services adds new tools to website
Business Career Services has produced a new video entitled
Interviewing Tips. This video will help students prepare for an
interview, succeed in answering behavior-based questions and
follow-up after an interview. Also available is Perfect Interview,
an interactive interviewing program that asks over 1,500 interview
questions, provides alternative answers, and coaches the student in
the rationale for the question and response. Both of these tools
can be found at

Career Week Feb. 13-20
Career Week kicks off on Tuesday, February 13 with mock interviews.
Students can sign up for these on ISU CMS. Highlights this year are
presentations sponsored by student organizations such as; “So you
want a career in MIS?” Sponsored by the MIS Club. “What is
Marketing, really?” Sponsored by the Marketing Club, and “So you
want to be in Financial Services?” A panel discussion sponsored by
the Finance Club. John Deere Credit and Target Stores will provide
programs related to Interviewing. On Monday, February 18, Career
Services will have a “Take 5” 5 minute resume review in 1320 Gerdin
Business Building. This year’s Networking Breakfast will be held at
the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center on Wednesday, February 20
with guest speaker and alum Ha-Keem Abdel-Khaliq. Visit

Anthony Townsend, associate professor of management
information systems, and Brian Mennecke, associate
professor of management information systems, had a paper titled
"Applications of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in the
Meat Industry," accepted for publication at CAB Reviews
(Perspectives in Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Nutrition, and
Natural Resources) - forthcoming.

management had a paper titled "Supplier Risk Assessment and
Monitoring for the Automotive Industry," accepted for
publication. It is forthcoming in International
Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management.

The Tribune interviewed Deanne Brocato, assistant
professor of marketing, about what factors in a business will help make
a wait easier for customers.

The Des Moines Business Record ran an advertisement for their
Power Breakfast on February 19 that featured Ric Jurgens
(industrial administration, '71), chairman of the board, CEO & president
of Hy-Vee, as one of the panelists.
JANUARY 27, 2008
The Des Moines Register announced the third annual John Pappajohn
Iowa Business Plan Competition. Finalists will present a summary
of their business at the 2008 Iowa Venture Capital and Entrepreneur
Conference on October 15.
JANUARY 26, 2008
The Tribune featured Marcus Johnson (finance, '03) in "On
The Move." Marcus is an officer trainee in the operations area of
First National Bank.
The Tribune announced
the award recipients of the "Four under 40" awards. Nicole
Gebhart (marketing, '97), one of the four recipients, is assistant
vice president, marketing, for Ames National Corporation.
JANUARY 20, 2008
The Des Moines Register printed an add for the Iowa Society of
Certified Public Accountants (ISCPA) that featured a photo of the ISCPA
board of directors. Labh Hira, dean of the Iowa State
University College of Business, is a board member.

Jeffrey D. Byrn (finance, '07) was featured in "On The Move" in
The Tribune. Jeffrey has been appointed financial
representative by Northwestern Mutual in Ames, Iowa.
JANUARY 14, 2008
Suzanna de Baca, lecturer of finance, wrote a story titled "My
Resolution: Be Mindful with Money," which was printed in The Des
Moines Business Record.
JANUARY 10, 2008
A photo of Labh Hira, dean of the Iowa State University College
of Business, and Dan Saftig, president of the Iowa State University
Foundation, attending the Greater Des Moines Partnership's 119th Annual
Dinner was published in The Des Moines Register.
JANUARY 5, 2008
Scott Bauer (management, '85) was featured in "On The Move" in
The Tribune. Scott was recently named president of First
National Bank. He joined First National Bank as an officer trainee
upon graduation from Iowa State University and held several positions
within the bank.
WINTER 2008
Visions printed a photo of the new members of the Young Alumni
Council for the ISU Alumni Association. Andrea Rheinhart
(management, '05) and Abby (Thayer) Croll (accounting/finance,
'02) have been named to participate, and will help to better engage and
involve recent ISU graduates in the life and work of the university.
The 2008 Distinguished Award
recipients for Iowa State University was listed in Visions.
Steve ( industrial administration, '79) and Debbie Bergstrom,
of Montgomery, Texas, received the Order of the Knoll
