Lori has accepted a
position with the Wilbur-Ellis company, an international
marketer and distributor of agricultural and industrial
products. They are based out of San Francisco and are
expanding their seed operations into Iowa. Lori will be
their coordinator of seed logistics and administration.

Small Business Development Center
The Iowa Small Business Development Center and its two entrepreneurs
of the year were honored with resolutions by the Iowa House and
Senate on February 20th following the SBDC’s annual legislative
reception and award ceremony at the State Capitol.
Senate Resolution Number 106 and House
Resolution Number 108 “honors award winners Anna Bradley and
Marguerite White and congratulates them on their success, and
recognizes and expresses its thanks to the Iowa Small Business
Development Centers for their ongoing work in making Iowa a better
place to live and work.”

Over 110
legislators, SBDC clients, personnel and partners discussed issues
important to Iowa’s small businesses at the reception. At the
conclusion of the reception, an award ceremony was held for Anna
Bradley and Marguerite White, winners of the SBDC’s two annual
entrepreneur awards. Immediately following the award ceremony, the
House and Senate resolutions were read into law.

The Mid
Iowa SBDC in Urbandale (hosted by Iowa State) has received a grant
from the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture to expand its
very successful Iowa agricultural business planning program, Grow
Your Small Market Farm, which is in its 8th year. The
grant, called “Expanding Business Skills for Specialty Growers in
Iowa” will expand the program’s services, in order to serve more
farm businesses across Iowa.
SBDC State
Director Jim Heckmann, Associate State Director Lars Peterson and
Assistant State Director Ellen Nystrom attended the PDI Grow Iowa
Day at the State Capitol on February 6th.
Lars
Peterson presented at the 2nd annual entrepreneurs
conference – EntreFest2008 – held in Cedar Falls on February 21-22.
Over 230 entrepreneurs attended the conference. He was also the
keynote speaker for a Business Succession workshop at Western Iowa
Tech Community College in Sioux City on February 27th.

The Iowa State Daily interviewed two students who have developed a Web
site that rates property management companies and landlords in Ames, IA.
David Kaiser, senior in computer engineering, and Keegan Dobson,
senior in operations and supply chain management, created
www.rateamesrentals.com.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25
It was announced in The Des Moines Business Record that Suku
Radia (industrial administration, '74) is leaving Meredith Corp. to
become president of Bankers Trust Co. on March 13, 2008. Radia has
been with Meredith Corp. since 2000 and was chief financial officer.
P.A. Henrichsen
(accounting, '93) was interviewed by The Des Moines Business Record.
After graduating from Iowa State Henrichsen earned his law degree and
has been with McEnroe, Gotsdiner, Brewer & Steinbach P.C. since 2003.
He has been named shareholder in the firm and his name has been added to
the company name.
The Des Moines Business
Record included a story on it's recent Power Breakfast. Ric
Jurgens (industrial administration, '71) spoke along with J. Barry
Griswell, chairman and chief executive, Principal Financial Group; Gary
Thomas, president of the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association; and
Matthew Wendt, superintendent of the Ankeny Community School District.
The theme of the speaker panel was "From Good to Great."
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24
A story was ran in The Des Moines Register on J. Michael Earley,
chief executive of Bankers Trust Co. in Des Moines and Suku Radia
(industrial administration, '74) whom will take over Earley's position
in March.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22
The Des Moines Register announced that Suku Radia

It was announced in The Tribune that Iowa State University
Accounting students will be offering free tax preparation services
through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The
program is located in 2148 Gerdin Business Building, February 19-April
10. Excluding spring break, March 17-21.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12
The Des Moines Register printed a story on how marketers help
consumers find the perfect Valentines Day gift. Kay Palan,
associate dean for undergraduate programs and professor of marketing,
stated that companies study patterns in gift-giving and fit their
product to it.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11
The Des Moines Business Record listed the Forty Under 40 Class.
Dwayne Vande Krol (accounting, '93) is one of the 40 members.
An event will be held March 11 at the Polk County Convention Complex.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9
Becky Pratt (accounting, '91) was featured in "On The Move" in
The Tribune. Becky has been appointed vice president and director
of compliance and Community Reinvestment Act for First American Bank.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4
Kay Palan, associate dean for undergraduate programs, did an
in-studio interview with WOI about Super Bowl ads.
