Dean
The College of Business Spring 2008 Graduation Ceremony is
Friday, May 9 at 5:00 p.m. in James H. Hilton
Coliseum. There are 467 undergraduate students graduating
this semester.
There
are 54 graduate students graduating including our first
Business Economics graduate.
Students from all of our graduate programs are attending the
ceremony:
Master of Accountancy
Master of Business Administration
Master of Science in Information Assurance
Master of Science in Information Systems
And
our first graduates in the interdisciplinary Human Computer
Interaction Ph.D. program.
Matthew Bradner, who will be graduating from the
College of Business this semester with a double major in
Finance and Management, has been chosen as the CoB student
marshal for the Spring Commencement Ceremony. Matthew was
also recently awarded the Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key
Award, an academic honor bestowed upon top performing
students of the Honor Society.

LOMIS Dept.
Brian Mennecke, associate professor of LOMIS, and
Anthony Townsend, associate professor of LOMIS, presented
the results of their TIMI (Technical Innovations in Management
and Infrastructure) research project, Developing a Customer
Satisfaction Survey for Forensic Laboratories, at the Midwest
Forensics Resources Center (MFRC) Annual Meeting in Bemidji, MN,
on April 24, 2008.
Brian Mennecke, associate professor of LOMIS, is
co-editing a special issue on Virtual Worlds and 3-D Web in the
Journal of Database Management. Other editors include Blake Ives
(University of Houston), Fiona Fui-Hoon Nah (University of
Nebraska at Lincoln), Shu Schiller (Wright State University),
and Keng Siau (University of Nebraska at Lincoln). The
submission deadline for submitted articles is January, 2009.
Kevin Scheibe, assistant professor of LOMIS, and
Anthony Townsend, associate professor of LOMIS, had a paper
titled “A Component-based Framework for Visualization of
Intrusion Detection Events” accepted for publication in
Information Systems Security – forthcoming.
Kevin Scheibe, assistant professor of LOMIS, with C.T.
Ragsdale and M.A. Trick had a paper titled “Fashioning Fair
Foursomes for the Fairways (Using a Spreadsheet-based DSS as the
Driver),” accepted for publication in Decision Support Systems –
forthcoming.
Kevin Scheibe, assistant professor of LOMIS, with T.R.
Rakes and L.P. Rees had a paper titled “Addressing
Universal-Broadband-Service Implications with Wireless Mesh
Networks” accepted for publication in Telecommunication Systems.

X. Hu had a paper titled “Diminishing Downsides of Data Mining”
in the Journal on Business Intelligence and Data Mining.

with Genetic Algorithms” in the Journal of Information and

Undergraduate
Amy Brandau, MBA student and
academic advisor, has taken a full-time position with the College of
Engineering, working with undeclared students.
Erin Murtha, MBA student and academic advisor, is graduating
also and has taken full-time employment in Des Moines.
Luis Fernando Aldano, MS-IS, and graduate assistant for
electronic portfolio development for the College, has taken a
position with John Deere.
Do not forget to sign up for the regional NACADA conference in Ames,
hosted by Iowa State and co-chaired by Deb Noll. Info for

The Undergraduate Programs office will go to summer hours, 7:30 to 4
starting May 12th through August 15th. On orientation days, we will
be open later.

Ellen Mullen,
lecturer, was named College of Business VEISHEA Faculty Award
winner this year. She was recognized for exhibiting passion in
her profession and standing out to her students.
