Faculty in the College of Business are very engaged in the acquisition, discovery and application of knowledge in all areas of business. Sponsored research is increasing, and several departments and faculty have received university, national, and international recognition for scholarly achievements. Distinctiveness Research Strengths Our finance faculty rank second in the nation for publications in the top refereed journals when compared with those institutions without a Ph.D. program and 37th when compared to all colleges and universities, according to the Journal of Finance. A recent article in the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management ranks our faculty second in the number of articles and tied for fourth in the number of published journal articles on selling and sales management in 16 top-ranked academic journals. The marketing
department is ranked 2nd for non-Ph.D. institutions in research impact and
productivity and 33rd when compared to all colleges and universities. This 2003
study was conducted by Helm, Hunt, and Houston with the University of Missouri,
Columbia. Our operations and supply chain management faculty rank fifth in research productivity and first when compared to institutions without a Ph.D. program, according to a recent article in the Academy of Management Journal. In January 2002, the American Business Review ranked our logistics and supply chain management department third among all North American universities in the productivity of its logistics faculty. Benjamin J. Allen was ranked second most cited with Richard F. Poist fourth and Michael R. Crum eleventh. Other faculty on the list includes Roy Dale Voorhees and Clyde Kenneth Walker. Previous faculty of the college mentioned included David L. Schrock, David B. Vellenga, Theodore P. Stank, and Paul D. Larson.
On the May 2002 CPA exam, ISU Accounting students' passing rate on each exam section ranked them in the top five among universities across the nation in all four sections of the exam according to the Candidate Performance on Uniform CPA Examination (2003). Iowa State University undergraduate students in finance placed first in the annual Krause Challenge investment competition with a 36.3 annualized percent return on investment competing against the University of Iowa, Drake University, and the University of Northern Iowa. The Iowa State University entrepreneurship program has been ranked as one of the top 100 programs in entrepreneurship, moving into a first tier ranking category, as reported in the May 2004 issue of Entrepreneur Magazine. U.S. News and World Report's 2005 America's Best Graduate Schools ranked Iowa State University 37 for supply chain/logistics. According to the Journal of Business Logistics and the Transportation Journal, the logistics and supply chain management (formerly transportation and logistics program) program ranks second among transportation programs and ninth among the nation’s logistics programs.
Technology Transfer and Economic Development The Pappajohn Center, in conjunction with the Iowa State University SBDC, assist small businesses and Iowa State University faculty and labs in the consideration and execution of technology transfer activities. Approximately 20-30 faculty members are helped each year. |
