Knowledge: Scholarship Highlights

Individual faculty have received recognition for either individual scholarly achievements or for their body of scholarly work:

 

Cynthia J. Campbell, Associate Professor of Finance, Mark L. Power, Professor of Finance, and Roger D. Stover, Professor of Finance, received the Best Corporate Paper award for the 2003 Southern Finance Association.  The paper is titled "On the Robustness of Corporate Governance: The Effect of Altering the Structure of Deferred Income for Outside Directors."

The fourth annual Glen McLaughlin Prize for Research in Accounting Ethics was awarded to Susan P. Ravenscroft, Professor of Accounting, and Steven E. Kaplan, Arizona State University in 2002. Their paper was titled "An Examination of the Negative Consequences Managers Face for Engaging in Earnings Management."

 

ISI Essential Science Indicators lists “Underwriter Reputation, Initial Returns and the Long-Run Performance of IPO Stocks,” by Richard Carter, Frederick Dark (currently Department Chair of Accounting, Department Chair of Finance, and Professor, and Associate Professor of Finance respective) and Ajai Singh (formerly Associate Professor of Finance), in the Journal of Finance February 1998 as a Top Paper in economics and business as measured by their total citation impact.  Since its publication and through February 2003, this paper accumulated 45 citations in journals monitored by the Social Sciences Citation Index. In each case, the number of citations puts these papers well within the range of citations for the top one percent of all articles published in economics and business during their respective publication years.

Frederick Dark, Associate Professor of Finance received the All Star Paper Award in 2002 bestowed upon the top two papers by average citations per year for each volume of the Journal of Financial Economics. The paper is “The Choice of Organizational Form: The Case of Franchising by James A. Brickley and Frederick H. Dark, Journal of Financial Economics, v. 18, n. 1 (June 1987).

 

Sanjeev Agarwal and Sridhar Ramaswami, marketing professors, have been named co-recipients of the annual Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) "Decade Award" by the Academy of International Business in 2002.

 

Rhonda Lummus, associate professor of production and operations management, received the Romey Everdell Award recognizing the most outstanding contribution to the highly respected Production and Inventory Management Journal published by APICS-the Educational Society for Resource Management fpr the paper, "Making the Right e-Fulfillment Decision."
