MBA Admission Information

MBA Admission Information

To be considered for the MBA program, a bachelor's degree (in any major) from an accredited college or university is required. We carefully assess each candidate's potential for advanced study in business through consideration of academic achievements, work experiences, communication skills, career goals, and motivation.

We will review your application only after we've received all required materials. We evaluate applications on a continuing basis, thus we will inform you of the admission decision shortly after your application is complete.

Full-time Program
Although not required, work experience is considered to be of great value and is strongly preferred. You are encouraged to submit your application materials by June 1 (March 1 for international students living outside the U.S.).
Part-time Program
To be considered for the part-time program you must be employed on a full-time basis.

Our admission process is self-managed. You are responsible for assembling your application and all supporting materials (academic records, letters of recommendation, etc.) and sending them to the addresses below.  You may submit materials all at once or mail things to us as you receive/complete them.

Application and Fee
You can apply online or mail in your application and fee. 

Go to www.applyweb.com/apply/isu for the application form.

Submit the ISU Graduate College Application and application fee ($30 for U.S. citizens, $70 for international student. Note: the fee will be waived if you attended Iowa State and submit a hard copy or a $5 fee will be charged if you apply online.) On the application form, please indicate "MBA, MBA-Saturday or MBA-Evening" as your graduate degree of interest.

Transcripts & Degree Statements
Obtain official university transcripts and degree statements from each institution previously attended.  You do not need to request a transcripts if you attended Iowa State University. 

Financial Statement (for international applicants)
You will need to provide evidence of your ability to financially support your graduate studies at Iowa State University

TOEFL/IELTS (for international applicants)
If your native language is not English, you  must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).  This requirement may be waived if you earned a bachelor's or master's degree from a country where English is the only official language.  A minimum score of 250 on TOEFL or 7.0 on IELTS is required to be considered for admission.

Include a copy of copy of your application with the materials you send to the College of Business.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) Scores
All applicants are required to take the GMAT (there are absolutely no exceptions). Please have an official score report sent to us. You can register for the GMAT by calling 1-800-GMAT-NOW or visit the GMAT Web site. We DO NOT accept the GRE.

Letters of Recommendation
We require three letters of recommendation from individuals who can attest to your potential for graduate study. Sources should be persons with substantial academic or work contact with you, such as professors or immediate supervisors. Letters may be submitted directly to the Graduate Programs Office or you may ask the letter writers to send the letters to you and you can forward them to us. Recommenders may use the forms included with the application or their own professional letterhead.

Goals Statement and Essays
You are asked to write a one-page statement discussing your academic and career goals and two additional essays on prescribed topics.  Each essay should be typed and limited to ONE page in length. Essays help us assess your goals, motivation, and your ability to communicate effectively in writing.
