AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University accounting students will be offering free tax preparation services through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program this season. Taxpayers with household incomes of $54,000 or less are eligible for basic return preparation services. In addition to free tax return preparation assistance, free electronic filing (e-filing) of federal and state returns is also available. Individuals taking advantage of the e-file program will receive their refunds in half the time compared to returns filed on paper – even faster if you have your refund deposited directly into your bank account.
The VITA program at Iowa State is located in 2148 Gerdin Business Building on the Iowa State University campus. Starting Tuesday, February 19, it will be open on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., and on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Assistance will be available on these days through Thursday, April 10, except for the week of March 17-21 when students at Iowa State are on spring break.
