04-16-08 Iowa State University College of Business Contact: Kay Palan, (515) 294-2422, kpalan@iastate.edu Dan Ryan, (515) 294-5800, djr@iastate.edu GERDIN CITIZENSHIP PROGRAM HONORS INAUGURAL CLASS AMES, Iowa — The Gerdin Citizenship Program, a voluntary program in the College of Business at Iowa State University that engages students through hands-on activities in seven key areas, honored its inaugural class of participants in a special celebration on Tuesday, April 15. Sixteen students completed the program in its first year. To meet requirements for completion, students must complete activities in the areas of professionalism, leadership, global awareness, diversity, ethics, civic responsibility, and public discourse. Activities include participation in community service projects, impromptu one-minute speeches, poster presentations, and attending lectures and events related to these topics. Students who complete the requirements of the program earn recognition as Gerdin Citizens, an important distinction to potential employers seeking engaged, informed, globally aware employees.
