Who Should Apply

Applicant Profile

The PhD program will be small and highly selective. Admission to the program is competitive and based on an applicant’s academic merit, interest in research and creation of knowledge, and match of research interests with faculty in the College of Business.

We seek individuals with intellectual rigor who show an innate level of curiosity for learning supported by strong work habits and capacity for perseverance. They should also have the capacity to be self-starters and exhibit good communication skills.

Applicant background

We prefer students with background that are relevant to their chosen area of study. For example:

Customer Management
Prior coursework in marketing, management, MIS, supply chain and demonstrated skills in customer research and statistics.

Management of Information Technology
Prior coursework and practical experience in MIS, computer science or engineering, or systems design and implementation.

Supply Chain Management
Prior coursework and professional experience in logistics, operations, transportation, distribution, and product development.

However, we are also interested in outstanding students who have educational and/or work backgrounds in related fields (e.g., other business disciplines, economics, sociology, psychology, engineering) who have a genuine interest in our areas of specialization.

Academic Prerequisites

Candidates to the Ph.D. program must also meet the required Academic Prerequisites.

Spotlight

Ph.D. Spotlight

"Our students will likely include mid-career professionals who are seeking an opportunity to use their skills in a way that helps others, advances the field, and still brings the financial reward that could be expected from a position—business faculty—in such high demand. I think there are a number of individuals out there now who don’t know they’re prospective PhD students but who will be attracted to it."
