The research methods requirement is designed to
meet three objectives: (a) to provide students
with a general knowledge of designing and
implementing research studies; (b) to provide
students with specialized knowledge of research
issues in their respective fields of study; and
(c) to prepare students for the design and
conduct of dissertation research as well as for
other research efforts in the post-dissertation
stage.
The area requirement includes a minimum of 12
hours in research methods and analysis courses.
In addition to course work in multiple
regression, experimental design and structural
modeling, students may also take courses in
qualitative research methodology such as
ethnographic field methods. Competence in
research methods is viewed by the College of
Business as an absolute must for all doctoral
students.
