The PhD program is among the first inter-disciplinary programs in business in the country. Although companies have adopted an integrated, inter-disciplinary stance, most PhD programs around the country are traditional in nature, focusing instead on functional areas of business.

While its primary focus is inter-disciplinary, our program also facilitates students to obtain specialized knowledge in one of the traditional functional areas of business such as marketing, management, operations, and logistics.

The PhD program will be supported by nationally and internationally renowned departments at Iowa State University in the areas of statistics, economics, psychology, sociology, industrial engineering, computer science, and computer engineering.

The College of Business culture is distinctly suited to the success of a PhD program. The college faculty work well across functional areas and with disciplines in other colleges on campus.

The business faculty are collegial and utilize an inclusive approach to problem solving. PhD students will have the opportunity to work with faculty as colleagues and equal partners.
