Bio Sketch EDUCATION
Area of Research:
Professional Activities: Dr. Poist became a faculty member at Iowa State University in 1991. Prior to that time, he had been a faculty member and administrator in the College of Business and Management at the University of Maryland, College Park. His background also includes experience as a logistics consultant to a number of shipper, carrier, governmental and trade organizations. He is an active member of several professional associations including the American Society of Transportation & Logistics, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, the Institute for Supply Management, the Warehousing Education and Research Council, and the National Defense Transportation Association. Dr. Poist’s research has appeared in numerous journals in the transportation and logistics field including the Journal of Business Logistics, Transportation Journal, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, Journal of the Transportation Research Forum, Journal of Transportation Law, Logistics, and Policy, the Defense Transportation Journal, and Supply Chain Management: An International Journal. In addition to being an ad hoc reviewer for numerous publications, Dr. Poist has served on the Editorial Review Boards of the Journal of Business Logistics, Transportation Journal, Journal of the Transportation Research Forum, Defense Transportation Journal and the International Journal of Logistics: Research and Applications. Currently he is Co-Editor of the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, an Emerald Group publication. Dr. Poist teaches primarily in the areas of transportation, logistics, purchasing, and supply chain management. He also is actively involved in academic-related service. In addition to being the Chair for the Department of Logistics, Operations, and Management Information Systems, he has served on numerous college committees involving curriculum and promotion & tenure issues, and at the university level has served as a member of the Faculty Senate and Faculty Senate Executive Board as well as the President’s Task Force on Research.
